Nobody wants to drop their kids off at a daycare every day while they go to work. Most single moms, however, are required to work in order to provide for their families. The way to solve the problem of dropping their children off at a daycare is to find a job they can do from home.

There are plenty of opportunities for work that can be done from home. If you know a skill that you can teach others, you could provide private lessons. You could teach music lessons, cooking lessons, or art lessons. Rather than dropping your kids off at a sitter’s, you could have others drop their kids off at your house, while you provide a daycare for other working parents. This would provide automatic playmates for your kids, and you could take on as many or as few children as you would like. There are numerous computer jobs that can be performed from home. I received a degree in accounting so that if the need arises, I will be able to find accounting work I can do at home. Put the word out for what you’re looking, keep your ears open, and you will find an at-home-job.

For single mothers, the choice to work outside of the home is often not a choice but a necessity to ensure that the child is provided for and has food, shelter and clothing. Single mothers that have chosen to work outside of the home have many factors to consider however – before making the final decision.
Here are some things that the single mother has to consider before deciding to work outside of the home:
Childcare
Who is going to care for the child while the mother is working? Does the mother have access to subsidies or lower cost child care in a quality environment to enable the mother to work outside of the home? Are there friends or family members that can help to offset the high cost of child care?
Flexibility
Is there flexibility at the job to allow the mother to spend part of the time working from home? Are there tasks in the workplace that can allow the mother to spend time at home, saving money on childcare?
Support
Taking care of children is difficult, is the mother going to be supported while working outside of the home? Ensuring a support network is in place can help to ensure success for the single parent family.

A great deal of people struggling when choosing daycare or a nanny for childcare. A Daycare facility is licensed by the state and has some of the best programs available. They offer outdoor play yards and are monitored by the state to ensure they are meeting standards. The daycare often has higher number of children per teachers and often there are horror stories of children being hurt or neglected.

A nanny can be scary, unless the family knows the person. Finding a person to trust with the children and the background checks can be overwhelming. Still there is a certain quality that is nice about having someone who either totally cares for one child or just a few children. They can give them the one on one attention that they would need. They can also offer the flexibility with hours that a daycare center cannot do.

The decision is a hard one and should be made on a case by case basis. If a child is old enough to tell the mother if something is wrong, then either situation would work. There is more trust in a daycare center, as they are monitored by the state and local authorities. Checking references on both a nanny and a daycare facility will help make the decision easier.

Now is the perfect time to get your college degree and step up into a better way of life with a new job. Especially for single mothers, this time of transition allows you to organize your future and to make some choices about where you want to go. There are plenty of grants available through the government and schools that will work with you on the funding that you need.

In order to receive a Pell Grant or other government grant, a four year degree must be the final goal. If you are interested in a 10 month to two year program such as cosmetology, massage school or auto mechanics, then you will need to search harder for a grant. They are out there though, so begin looking by going to the financial aid office in the school you are considering and see what they have to offer.

Single Moms might want to start looking at the four year college in their area because most colleges provide child care, the financial aid office would have complete information and typically, a four year college carries everything that is needed for classes. There is a grant waiting for you, so decide what you want to do, and find it.
